New Victoria Park Recreation Precinct To Connect Community

  • McCallum Park Active Area redevelopment complete
  • Upgrades to basketball courts, BMX pump track, skate park and community space delivered
  • Project supported by more than $900,000 in State Government funding

Perth's newest recreation precinct is now open in Victoria Park, with the vibrant community space on the Swan River delivered with support from the Western Australian Government.

The McCallum Park Active Area is part of the government's commitment to developing local sport and recreation infrastructure to support healthier, better-connected communities.

The $4.8 million multi-sport precinct was made possible through a $926,653 grant from the WA Government's Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund, which aims to increase participation in sport and recreation activities through sustainable infrastructure development.

An additional $2.5 million was provided through the Federal Government's Investing in Our Communities Program, with the Town of Victoria Park contributing the remainder of the project funding.

The revitalised area includes basketball courts with full-court murals by local Indigenous artists Kamsani Bin Salleh and Chris Nixon, a competition-ready skate plaza, and a new BMX pump track.

The precinct has also delivered upgraded landscaping, spectator areas, a junior scooter track, and active community spaces designed to bring people together.

The area's large-scale artworks recognise the important land connection to the Swan River and the cultural significance of the area.

The delivery of this project is part of PlayOn WA - the WA Government's bold initiative to help guide investment in community sport and recreation infrastructure across the State through to 2030.

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:

"The McCallum Park Active Area is a great example of the WA Government's commitment to delivering modern, inclusive infrastructure that brings people together.

"By investing in vibrant multi-use spaces like this, we're creating more opportunities for locals of all ages to stay active, healthy and connected to their community.

"This project is part of our broader PlayOn WA initiative - building the future of community sport through smart, sustainable infrastructure that keeps pace with growing demand."

As stated by Victoria Park MLA Hannah Beazley:

"I'm thrilled to see the completion of such a great project, which will give my local community a place to come together, have fun and take part in healthy outdoor activities.

"The McCallum Park Active Area is an example of the amazing community facilities that can be delivered when local, State and Federal governments work together.

"Facilities like these are such an important asset for the local community, and I'm sure they'll be enjoyed for years to come."

As stated by Federal Member for Swan Zaneta Mascarenhas:

"We've unlocked a vibrant new space that invites people to move. From shooting hoops to scooting along these new paths or testing BMX skills, this precinct is built for fun.

"It also invites people to connect and enjoy the river - another reason to come across the Boorloo Bridge to Victoria Park.

"The Albanese Labor Government is proud to partner with the State on projects like this that strengthen community and help shape a healthier, more connected future."
