New Website Keeping Track Of Our Environment WAtch

  • Environment WAtch website delivers quicker information on environmental incidents managed by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation
  • Simple online form makes it easier to report pollution complaints

The State Government's Environment WAtch website is a one-stop shop for up-to-date information on environmental incidents and pollution responses in Western Australia.

The new mobile-friendly website enhances the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation's (DWER) Environment WAtch service (formerly Pollution Watch) which operates 24/7 capturing public and industry reports on matters such as pollution, illegal dumping, illegal clearing, and reports of environmental emissions such as noise, dust, odour and waste discharges.

The website also makes it easier for the community to submit complaints about pollution, illegal dumping and other matters that are managed by the department, with a simple online complaint submission form.

The website contains information on common environmental issues in Western Australia and an interactive map displaying selected ongoing environmental incidents.

In the last financial year, reports to the DWER hotline resulted in 373 deployments of the environment response team to serious incidents, including hazardous material waste fires, chemical and fuel spills, and impacts to wildlife.

The public can still report pollution by calling the hotline on 1300 784 782, and if the incident is life-threatening or an emergency, call 000.

As stated by the Environment Minister Matthew Swinbourn:

"The launch of this fantastic new interactive website ensures the public have timely access to information about major incidents throughout the State.

"We want to use digital technology to give the public up-to-date information on major incidents and responses, and at the same time, make it easier to report.

"Environment WAtch puts the public in the picture, with clear, accessible updates on what's happening and what's being done."
