The redevelopment of Newman Health Service is a step closer with the release of a forward works tender package.
The forward works will include unsealed roads, temporary car parks and in-grounds works to prepare the site for the main contract of works and is anticipated to be released for tender in early 2020.
Construction of the new purpose-built hospital is expected to commence in 2020 and will include 12 inpatient beds, six emergency department treatment bays, outpatient consult spaces and therapy rooms, two dental chairs, six GP consult spaces and rooms for medical imaging and pathology/procedure.
The new facility will benefit from the latest innovative technology in country healthcare, including telehealth and videoconferencing that will facilitate services such as emergency telehealth, and offer more options for access to specialists.
Newman Health Service will continue providing high-quality, patient-centered care at the existing site throughout the redevelopment project.
As stated by Health Minister Roger Cook:
"The $53.73 million Newman Health Service redevelopment is supported by the State Program and a $15 million contribution from BHP.
"The McGowan Government is committed to investing in new health infrastructure and services to ensure that Western Australians receive the best possible healthcare, no matter where they live."
As stated by Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel:
"The Newman Hospital was built in 1970 so a new hospital on the existing site will be much welcomed by the local community and provide local patients with a more contemporary, fit-for-purpose new building.
"The new building will also include renal chairs, delivering on the election commitment to ensure patients can soon access renal services closer to home.
"The Newman Health Service provides healthcare to residents in the vast geographic location of the East Pilbara district, the largest local government shire in Australia.
