Newnham Man Accused of Vandalizing Launceston Realty Office

Police have charged a 28-year-old Newnham man with destroying shop-front windows of a Real Estate office in Cimitiere Street, Launceston.

The incident occurred at about 4:30pm on Monday the 30th of October 2023.

At the time the office was open for business and several staff members were present inside the building.

In what police will allege was a deliberate act of vandalism, the man used a hammer to smash several windows a number of large plate glass windows at the front of the building along with a glass electric door. Damage is estimated to be in the vicinity of $80,000 due to the size and structure of the windows. No-one was physically injured during the incident.

Police say the damage was believed to be an isolated incident and the man involved was known to staff of the Real Estate business. He was charged and bailed to appear in The Launceston Magistrates Court in December.
