Council will progress planning for works at parks in Mooroolbark and Kilsyth, with the State Government awarding $470,000 to two local projects through the Pick My Park grants program.
Community members were invited to vote for local projects to receive funding through the Pick My Park program, with the list of successful projects recently released by the State Government.
Yarra Ranges Mayor, Cr Richard Higgins, said he was pleased that both park projects Council had nominated had been awarded funding.
"We asked the community to help us secure funding for a youth-focused space at 150 Cambridge Road in Kilsyth with bike activities and jumps, and for the first stage of works to get McDermott Avenue Reserve ready as community open space - and the community delivered," Cr Higgins said.
"Both of these projects are in community spaces with real potential, but we needed funding assistance. I'm thrilled that the community and Victorian Government saw the value of these projects and that we've received this funding."
Over the last year, 150 Cambridge Road has received landscaping works and community plantings, while Council recently adopted a master plan for McDermott Avenue Reserve, mapping out how the former netball facility will be turned into community open space in coming years.
Council will commence these Pick My Park projects in the 2027/28 financial year.
"The Pick My Park funding is vital to both projects, giving us a helping hand to improving these spaces and making them somewhere community members look forward to visiting," Cr Higgins said.
"I'd like to thank everyone who signed up and voted, and to the Victorian Government for their support through this program."
Once the funding has been received, Council will progress design for both projects and keep community updated as they progress.
