The Tasmanian Government is making it easier to get planning approval for new apartments by delivering the draft Apartment Code.
The draft Code provides a clear pathway for planning approval and encourages good quality design and liveable spaces.Key industry stakeholders, including councils, industry bodies and the Tasmania Planning Commission, have been provided a copy of the draft Code for targeted feedback.
Minister for Housing and Planning, Kerry Vincent said the Tasmanian Government was improving planning rules to make it easier to deliver apartments in appropriately zoned areas.
"The draft Code will make the approval process smoother, faster and more certain for everyone involved," Minister Vincent said.
"We are getting on with building even more homes, including by making it easier to deliver more diverse housing in strategic locations, including business centres and areas close to transport corridors.
"By making it easier to develop apartments including shop top housing, we can unlock existing space in our communities and support more people living close to jobs, services, public transport and amenities.
"There are real opportunities across the State to revitalise our town centres, support local businesses, create jobs and deliver more homes for Tasmanians.
"We are delivering on our commitments under the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's future to increasing housing options."
Following industry feedback, the draft Code will be released for public consultation.
