Next step in Cambridge Primary School redevelopment

Roger Jaensch, Minister for Education, Children and Youth

The Stage 1 works plan for the Rockliff Liberal Government's $15.1 million redevelopment of Cambridge Primary School has been released.

Minister for Education, Children and Youth, Roger Jaensch, said the Rockliff Liberal Government was getting things done and delivering on its 2021 election commitment to provide Cambridge students and staff with modern, high-quality learning facilities.

"Stage 1 of the redevelopment includes construction of multiple new learning spaces and significant refurbishments of existing facilities, including the library, canteen, break-out spaces, sensory rooms, staff offices and covered outdoor areas, as well as extensive landscaping and playground design," Minister Jaensch said.

"Stage 2 will see construction of a new gymnasium and supporting facilities in collaboration with the Clarence City Council, with consultation on this development to be undertaken by the Council."

The works plan was developed by the local project architects Bence Mulcahy in collaboration with the Cambridge Primary School and Department for Education, Children and Young People representatives.

Works on Stage 1 of the redevelopment are expected to begin in late 2023, subject to the outcomes of the tender process for a building contractor.

"This significant redevelopment will not only benefit students, families and staff for generations to come, it will also support jobs and the local economy," Minister Jaensch said.

The redevelopment of Cambridge Primary School is part of the Rockliff Liberal Government's record investment in new education infrastructure across the State.

Minister Jaensch said the Government's 2021 election commitments in the south also include the $6.5 million redevelopment of Lauderdale Primary School and $21.6 million for upgrades to Hobart City High School.

Public consultation on the Stage 1 works plan for Cambridge Primary School will be open from March 21 to April 14.
