State Crime Commander, Assistant Commissioner Scott Cook, said there are clear and consistent themes emerging across the strike forces currently targeting organised criminal networks.
"At the epicentre of the violence we're seeing play out in Sydney's south-west is the importation and distribution of prohibited drugs – namely methylamphetamine and cocaine. These commodities continue to drive conflict, debt, and retribution within and between these networks.
"Through these investigations – in just the past couple of months alone – we have uncovered a significant volume of intelligence about players, coordinators and facilitators.
"The 'contract criminal' methodology is now well established in NSW, and what recent efforts have uncovered is our ability to also reach trusted insiders enabling the violence. Our message to them is simple: we know who you are, and we are coming for you.
"While our work here in NSW is progressing at pace, we are now fully focused on those offshore who are calling the shots. It is evidently clear the violence on our streets is intrinsically linked to what we are seeing unfold overseas, including in locations such as Vietnam.
"That is why it is imperative we continue working hand-in-glove with our national and international law enforcement partners. Our priority is to bring those directing this violence back to Australia through mutual legal assistance processes which are underway.
"We want to stop the violence, and we are all in."
Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism Yasmin Catley said this is extraordinary police work.
"With police working hard to break up these networks we now have 390 kilos of ice off the streets," Minister Catley said.
"Organised crime recruit kids, push drugs into our suburbs and fuel violence. With our tough organised crime bill expected to pass the Legislative Assembly today, police will soon have even stronger powers to go after them."
"NSW Police are dismantling these networks piece by piece, and this Government will keep backing them to do their job."
