North Albury Man Faces Drug, Weapon Charges

A man has been charged with drug and weapon offences in the State's south.

About 5am on Thursday (25 April 2024), emergency services were called to Ryan Road, North Albury following reports of a house fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze. No one was inside at the time.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, about 9am Friday (26 April 2024), a Firearms and Weapons Prohibition Orders search was executed at a home in Byron Street, North Albury.

Police allegedly seized a knife, knuckle dusters, MDMA, cannabis seed, buprenorphine, testosterone and methylamphetamine.

A 35-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Albury Police Station.

He was charged with two counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, two counts of possess prohibited drug, and use prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition order.

He was refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court today (Monday 29 April 2024).

Investigations into the fire are continuing.
