North West Roads Safety Boost

Upgrades to highways and corridors in the North West will make Tasmanian roads safer and more efficient.

Liberal Member for Braddon, Roger Jaensch, said six priority safety projects were among the $1.7 billion to be invested into Tasmania's roads over the next four years.

"The Bass Highway is vitally important for moving freight, tourists and locals across the North West and there has been significant investment in this strategic transport route," Mr Jaensch said.

"The 2026-27 Budget continues this work, with improvements and upgrades to deliver economic-enabling infrastructure that will move our state forward."

The Budget includes:

  • $145m for the Bass Hwy Corridor Devonport to Launceston;
  • $42m to complete the Wynyard to Marrawah section of the Bass Hwy;
  • Finalisation of the $50m Bass Hway - Cooee to Wynyard including the completed Cam River Bridge replacement;
  • $16.6m for the Devonport to Cradle Mountain Corridor improvements; and
  • Upgrades to the Ridgley and Stanley highways.

Mr Jaensch said the Government is delivering a strong economy and caring community, and these important road upgrades will help keep our communities connected.

"The upgrades will not only reduce the potential risk for crashes, but they will also improve travel times for the thousands of cars travelling these roads every day," Mr Jaensch said.

"This is a clear demonstration of how our Government is delivering for Tasmania."
