On 27 June 2023, H.E. Mr Jonas Gahr Støre, Prime Minister of Norway, visited the International Criminal Court (ICC), where he was received by ICC President Judge Piotr Hofmański and ICC Prosecutor Karim A. A. Khan KC.
Thanking the Prime Minister for his visit, President Hofmański stated: "The cooperation and support of Norway, along with the other 122 States Parties to the Rome Statute, is very highly appreciated and of crucial importance for the Court to carry out its mandate as it copes with a high workload relating to conflicts and alleged crimes in numerous situations around the world".
Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre stated: "The global fight against impunity is more important than ever. Norway remains steadfast in its support to the ICC and its staff. Attacks against the Court or its staff are unacceptable. Today, I got an important update on the work done to ensure accountability for grave crimes committed. Accountability is crucial to prevent future crimes and to provide justice for victims".
The visit of the Prime Minister of Norway to the ICC highlights Norway's commitment to the Court and the joint efforts deployed in the fight against the impunity of the perpetrators of the most serious crimes that affect the international community as a whole. Norway signed the Rome Statute on 28 August 1998 and deposited its instrument of ratification of the Rome Statute on 16 February 2000. Norway is also a current member of the Bureau Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute.
