New fly-through animation released today will give the community the first look at the state-of-the art health facilities within the new three-storey Clinical Services Building being delivered as part of the Griffith Base Hospital's $250 million redevelopment.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said all major health services will be located under the one roof for the first time, improving patient experiences and outcomes.
"The Griffith Base Hospital redevelopment is a landmark project for the region and the largest health infrastructure project investment currently taking place in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District," Mr Toole said.
"The NSW Nationals in Government are committed to ensuring people living in the regions have access to the best quality health services and this Clinical Services Building ensures simple access for those who need it."
Minister for Regional Health and Mental Health Bronnie Taylor said this project will make a real difference to lives of people living in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District.
"From a new emergency department to more beds for mental health, aged care and rehabilitation, this redevelopment will meet the health needs of the local community and surrounding towns now and into the future," Mrs Taylor said.
"This year we will welcome more than 160 newly graduated Registered Nurses to the Murrumbidgee Local Health District, the largest ever graduate intake year for the District. Excitingly this Clinical Services Building will be the new workplace for many of these new nurses."
The state-of-the-art Clinical Services Building features:
- an improved emergency department
- significant increase in aged care and rehabilitation beds
- new operating theatres
- surgical and medical inpatient units, including four beds to support patients aged 16 years and over requiring short term care for an acute mental episode
- maternity, medical imaging and paediatrics
- expanded outpatient services with more specialist clinics, renal and oncology services
- a new car park.
Duty MLC for Murray Wes Fang said patients, staff and community are at the centre of the design of the new Clinical Services Building, and have been involved throughout the planning for the new hospital.
"This is a significant investment in health infrastructure for our community which will provide expanded health services closer to home within a modern, cutting edge facility that will meet the health needs of the region for years to come," Mr Fang said.
"Inpatient rooms with ensuites, community courtyard areas, landscaped gardens as well as a café will also be included as part of the redevelopment, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for patients, visitors and staff."
The NSW Government and the Murrumbidgee Local Health District are working closely with contractor, ADCO Constructions, to deliver the new Clinical Services Building, with construction already underway.
Construction of the new hospital is set to be completed in 2025 before services are transferred over from the current hospital and the new facility is operational.
Health services will continue without interruption during construction of the new Clinical Services Building.
The Griffith Base Hospital redevelopment is part of the NSW Government's record $10.8 billion investment in health infrastructure over four years to 2024-25, with nearly a third of the capital allocation in this financial year, $900 million going towards regional and rural health facilities in NSW.
