NSW Man Sentenced Over Social Media Death Threat

A New South Wales man has been issued with a two-year good behaviour order and fined $1000 for threatening a government advisor on social media.

The man, 63, was sentenced in Wyong Local Court yesterday (4 November, 2026).

The AFP's National Security Investigations (NSI) team charged the Central Coast man in August, 2026, following an investigation into a threat posted on social media, directed towards a government advisor.

The man was served a court attendance notice for one count of using a telecommunications service to menace, harass or cause offence, contrary to section 474.17(1) of the Criminal Code (Cth).

The man subsequently pleaded guilty and the matter dealt with summarily.

AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett announced the establishment of NSI teams in October, 2025, to target groups and individuals causing high levels of harm to Australia's social cohesion, including the targeting of the Jewish community.
