Hundreds of additional staff have been deployed across the transport network to support customers returning to school and work.
Additional Transport Officers, Security Officers and Marshalling Officers will help customers stay safe across the transport network as COVID-19 (coronavirus) restrictions start to ease.
The extra support will help monitor physical distancing, assist crowd management and provide additional guidance for customers moving between stations and interchanges safely.
As part of the COVIDSafe Transport Plan, green dots have been rolled out across the network to help customers keep social distance, while also pointing commuters to the safest places to sit and stand while travelling.
An additional 700 cleaners have been hired since March 2020 to increase cleaning efforts across the metro and regional networks to stop any potential spread of COVID-19.
Minister for Transport Andrew Constance said customers will now see the additional teams out and about across all modes of transport.
“Initially, 20 teams will be rolled out at key interchanges and transport hubs across Sydney and other busy centres including at Newcastle, Wollongong and the Blue Mountains,” Mr Constance said.
Transport for NSW Chief Operations Officer Howard Collins said the new teams bolster efforts in providing a safe and clean public transport system, especially with students returning to school.
“Transport has a vital role to play in getting students back to school and we want to assure parents and carers we are working hard to support this return,” Mr Collins said.
“No school student will be turned away from any public transport, even if this means physical distancing won’t always be possible.”
