NSW Unveils Canterbury Hospital Redevelopment Plans

The Canterbury community is being invited to provide feedback on the concept designs for the Canterbury Hospital Redevelopment via a new interactive online platform.

The NSW Government is investing $350 million in the Canterbury Hospital Redevelopment to deliver the largest upgrade to the hospital in more than 26 years to help meet the healthcare needs of the diverse Canterbury community into the future.

The concept design outlines the planned locations of new and enhanced health services and facilities to be housed within a new multi-storey building as well as extensions and enhancements to the existing Canterbury Hospital campus.

Community members can view the plans and designs for the redevelopment and are encouraged to provide their feedback via an interactive online survey, which will continue to shape planning for the redevelopment.

To support the online interactive platform, community information drop-in sessions are being held at the hospital, giving staff and community the opportunity to meet members of the project team and ask questions about the plans and design for the $350 million redevelopment.

Information drop-in sessions at Canterbury Hospital will be held inside the main hospital entrance on:

Tuesday, 13 May 7:00am - 3:00pm

Thursday, 15 May 7:00am - 3:00pm

The concept design for the redevelopment has been informed by Canterbury Hospital's Clinical Services Plan and is expected to include:

  • a new expanded and enhanced Intensive Care Unit
  • new purpose-built adult inpatient accommodation
  • expanded and enhanced Emergency Department
  • additional surgical theatre capacity
  • enhanced and expanded antenatal facilities
  • additional ambulatory and outpatient care capacity
  • other clinical and non-clinical enhancements to existing and retained facilities, to support changing models of care.

The redevelopment will also provide improved accessibility to the campus including internal access, urban spaces, landscaping and wayfinding.

The Canterbury Hospital Redevelopment is part of the Minns Labor Government's delivery of more than $3 billion in hospital infrastructure across Western Sydney, including:

  • $700 million for the new Rouse Hill Hospital
  • $120 million for Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals - additional beds
  • $1.3 billion for the New Bankstown Hospital
  • $550 million for the Fairfield Hospital Redevelopment

The Canterbury Hospital Redevelopment is being delivered by Health Infrastructure, in partnership with the Sydney Local Health District.
