NT Health Expanded eligibility for fourth COVID-19 vaccine dose

7 July 2022

Medical experts, the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI), have updated the criteria for those people who are eligible to receive a fourth dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

· People aged 50 to 64 years are now recommended to have a fourth dose of a COVID-19 vaccine

· People aged 30 to 49 years may choose to get a fourth dose of a COVID-19 vaccine

· Vulnerable people and those aged 65 years and over are already eligible to receive a fourth dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and are strongly recommended to do so.

People aged 30 years and over will now be able to get a fourth dose of a COVID-19 vaccine from Monday, 11 July 2022.

At this stage, people not in the priority groups are not recommended to get a fourth dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

ATAGI has also reduced the interval between vaccine doses from four months to three months to provide additional protection.

People who have tested positive for COVID-19 can now also get their fourth dose three months after the date of their infection.

COVID-19 cases are continuing to increase in the NT and across Australia as the BA.4 and BA.5 variants spread.

The current rise in COVID-19 cases is a timely reminder for Territorians to stay up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccinations to make sure they have the best protection.
