NZ police acknowledge IPCA findings 29 September

As stated by Central District Commander Superintendent Scott Fraser:

Police acknowledge the findings of an IPCA report, which concluded that Police were justified in using force during an arrest of a man in Inglewood.

On 21 May 2020 Police arrested a man who at the time was a high-priority violent offender.

During the arrest process the man attempted to escape custody on several occasions and officers used a range of tactics, including Tasers, to control the man and transport him to the Police station.

The IPCA found Police were justified in using force to prevent the man from escaping custody, as he was deemed a risk to both Police and members of the public and had a history of violent offending and gang involvement.

We accept and acknowledge these findings.
