OAS Begins Preliminary Election Visit in Honduras

OAS

The Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Honduras, led by former Paraguayan Foreign Minister Eladio Loizaga, began its preliminary visit with the aim of listening to political and electoral actors in the country and contributing to the smooth conduct of the electoral process.

During its first day of work, the OAS/EOM team held meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Javier Bu Soto; members of the Electoral Justice Tribunal; and candidates Enrique Callejas (DC), Jorge Ávila (PINU-SD), and Nasry Asfura (PN), as well as with some members of the international community accredited in the country. These meetings allowed the team to learn about different perspectives on the development of the ongoing electoral process.

Tomorrow, the members of the OAS/EOM will continue with a schedule of working meetings with presidential candidates and electoral councilors to complement those held during the first day. The Mission is committed to supporting this electoral process and is keeping open channels of communication for anyone who wishes to contact it.

This is the thirteenth Electoral Observation Mission that the OAS has deployed in Honduras.
