The Organization of American States (OAS) will host the Tenth Inter-American Meeting of Ministers of Culture and Highest Appropriate Authorities on November 13–14, 2025, in a virtual format.
Convened under the theme "Advancing Culture and the Creative Economy for Prosperity in the Americas," the meeting will bring together ministers and senior officials from over twenty OAS member states to discuss strategies for better integrating culture and the creative economy into regional development frameworks.
The two-day event will highlight the role of the creative economy as a driver of inclusive growth, employment, and innovation across the hemisphere. Participants will address issues such as formalization in the cultural sector, safeguarding cultural heritage, and developing reliable data systems to measure the contribution of culture to national economies and inform decision-making.
The meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss issues related to strengthening culture and creative economy as key enablers of prosperity and sustainable development in the Americas. It will recognize the growing importance of these areas as contributors to GDP, employment, and social inclusion, while noting their continued vulnerability to fragmentation and underinvestment. Discussions will focus on how countries can refine policies and strengthen institutional arrangements to reduce informality, enhance culture data systems, safeguard cultural heritage, and expand opportunities for cultural diplomacy and cooperation through the OAS framework.
At the close of the meeting, Ministers are expected to adopt a Declaration and Plan of Action setting forth shared priorities for strengthening cooperation in culture and the creative economy in the region. The meeting will also include the election of new authorities of the Inter-American Committee on Culture (CIC).
