In accordance with the resolution adopted by the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), which, inter alia, 1) rejected the acts of violence, 2) called on all parties involved to strengthen dialogue, and 3) expressed its support for the democratically elected Government of Bolivia, the High-Level Mission of OAS member states has begun its work to strengthen Bolivia's institutions and support the efforts of the country's democratically elected authorities. In addition, the Mission is hearing a range of perspectives to reinforce the ongoing dialogue processes and efforts to restore peace and guarantee constitutional order.
The High-Level Mission is composed of the delegations of Panama, led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Javier Martínez-Acha; Argentina, represented by Acting Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship Juan Manuel Navarro; Canada, represented by the Head of the Office for Bolivia, Laurie Rogers; Chile, represented by the Director of the South America Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fernando Velasco; the United States, represented by Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Western Hemisphere Affairs of the Department of State, Michael Hanky; Peru, represented by Ambassador to the OAS Rodolfo Coronado; Uruguay, represented by Ambassador to the OAS Edison Lanza; and the Secretary General of the Organization of American States, Albert R. Ramdin.
As part of today's agenda, the High-Level Mission held meetings with Bolivia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fernando Aramayo Carrasco, as well as representatives of the Executive, Legislative, Electoral, and Judicial branches, in addition to the Plurinational Constitutional Court, the Office of the Attorney General, and other national authorities.
The High-Level Mission also held a series of meetings with representatives of social organizations, Indigenous peoples, farmers, labor unions, labor and mining sectors, academia, business and productive sectors, transportation, tourism and gastronomy, the media, and other civil society stakeholders.
Following this first day of activities, the OAS High-Level Mission highlighted the frank and open dialogue held with a wide range of stakeholders, who shared their experiences, perspectives, and aspirations for Bolivia. Without exception, the discussions were open, constructive, and conducted in good faith. In this context, stakeholders put forward concrete proposals that will be reflected in the Mission's report.
Tomorrow, the Mission's agenda will continue in the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, where it will hold meetings with representatives of the business sector and social organizations.
Upon the conclusion of its work in Bolivia, the High-Level Mission will present a report to the OAS Permanent Council at the Organization's headquarters in Washington, D.C., to continue supporting the work of the country's democratic authorities, because today our Organization stands united in support of Bolivian democracy.
