OAS Women's Commission Initiates Parity Model Law Draft

The Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) of the Organization of American States (OAS) will organize a forum on Thursday, May 9 at 11:00 EDT (15:00 GMT) in the Hall of the Americas at OAS headquarters to launch the process of drafting the Inter-American Model Law on Gender Parity in Public and Political Life.

The Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, will participate in the forum, together with the Permanent Observer of Spain to the OAS, Carmen Montón, the Executive Secretary of the CIM, Alejandra Mora; and the former Vice President of Costa Rica, Epsy Campbell.

The event will also include a round table on "new visions of political leadership," which will feature the participation of the Chair of the OAS Permanent Council and Permanent Representative of The Bahamas to the OAS, Chet Neymour; the Permanent Representative of Costa Rica to the OAS, Alejandra Solano; the Permanent Representative of Chile to the OAS, Sebastián Kraljevich; the Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the OAS, Mauricio Montalvo; the Director of the GQUAL Campaign and Deputy Executive Director of the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL), María Leoni, and the Associate Dean for International and Comparative Legal Studies at George Washington University, Rosa Celorio.
