Ocean Grove outdoor dining activation

Greater Geelong Acting Director Economy, Investment and Attraction Tim Ellis

TRAFFIC:

There has been no change to the existing loading zones. Unloading outside of these designated areas – including by double parking - is against the state's road rules and should not be encouraged.
There has been no change to traffic operations on The Terrace, including the levels of car parking, traffic and loading access, and public open space. There has been no change to access from Presidents Ave. The Terrace remains a one-way street with one vehicle able to access it at a time.

CONSULTATION:

The City released a draft concept plan in early November and called for feedback from businesses on The Terrace, between Presidents Avenue and Hodgson Street. Of the 41 responses received, 61 per cent were supportive of the temporary installation. Based on the feedback, the City updated the concept and relocated or removed parklets to assist non-hospitality businesses opposed to the initiative.

PUBLIC VALUE:

The initiative has added more than 50 outdoor dining seats to The Terrace. Patron numbers over the first few days have been high, and the public feedback has been very positive. We believe the activation will benefit the entire precinct, by helping it become a more appealing place to spend time.
