Water, light, music and dance combine in this spectacular live show

20 May - 22 May

6.30pm & 7.30pm

The Australian National Maritime Museum comes to life with a free performance that celebrates our connection to the ocean. A spectacular moving water fountain display will provide a kaleidoscopic backdrop to traditional and contemporary performances by First Nations and Pacific Islander dancers. Moving together in synchronised harmony, the performers and the water fountain will evoke the spirit of the ocean, co-existence between people and the precious waters that bless our island nation.

An experience that's perfect for the whole family, as art, music, dance and design come together to share a message about living in harmony with our ocean environment.

This initiative is part of the museum's commitment to the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–30).

One of the artists behind the project, Tito Schmidt Stowers said, 'I hope Ocean Spirit Rising will bring attention and awareness to climate change which is heavily affecting many Pacific islands. The rising sea level as a result of global warming is a major threat to our land and culture. The work displays not only great visual effect but also a message of hope portrayed through movement.'

Kevin Sumption, Director and CEO of the museum said, 'We are delighted to showcase the issue with this work. Also, as the city continues to recover from COVID the chance for us to bring the museum to life after hours is an exciting opportunity. We thank the City of Sydney for the support.'

Ripples Maritime Museum will be trading late on these nights and have a range of food and beverage packages available. Visit www.sea.museum/ocean-spirit-risingfor
