Officer assaulted during RBT stop - Canley Heights

A man will face court after allegedly assaulting an officer and refusing to take a roadside breath test.

About 11.15pm (Friday 13 March 2020) police responded to reports that a car had crashed into a pole on Wyong Street, Canley Heights.

Officers attached to Fairfield Police Area Command stopped the silver Honda Jazz a short distance away as it attempted to leave the scene of the crash.

The driver, a 58-year-old man, refused to participate in a roadside breath test.

Police placed the man under arrest, during which a short struggle took place and an officer was allegedly poked in the eye.

He was taken to Fairfield Police Station where allegedly he refused to provide a breath analysis.

The man's licence was immediately suspended, and he was charged with refuse or fail to submit to breath analysis and assault officer in the execution of duty.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court on Monday 30 March 2020.
