- Newly constructed Williams Health Centre officially opened
- The new centre is part of the biggest capital works program ever completed by the WA Country Health Service
Agricultural Region MLC Darren West, representing Health Minister Roger Cook, today officially opened the new Williams Health Centre.
Innovative technology, along with new infrastructure and improved patient systems have a huge part to play in modern healthcare. The new Williams Health Centre is providing these facilities for Wheatbelt communities.
As well as the modern infrastructure, patients will benefit from enhanced clinical service access through telehealth, which connects local clinicians on site with specialist support where needed, as well as reducing the need for patients to travel.
Modern treatment areas combined with state-of-the-art internal communications, such as the introduction of a wireless network, will transform the overall experience for patients at the health centre.
The $4 million health centre includes a treatment area for outpatient services and three multipurpose telehealth-enabled consult rooms (including child health). A shared group room, reception, waiting area, staff and support areas have also been created within the centre.
The new building is built to contemporary standards that will enable the provision of high-quality patient care delivered in an aesthetically pleasing environment.
The redevelopments are part of a $300 million capital works program that is improving capital infrastructure in 37 towns across the Wheatbelt, Great Southern, Mid-West and South-West regions. In the Wheatbelt region, Merredin, Narrogin and Northam hospitals are being redeveloped as well as upgrades to 23 small hospitals and health centres across the region.
As noted by Health Minister Roger Cook:
"The Williams Health Centre supports the McGowan Government's vision of delivering contemporary healthcare in the country, ensuring local families receive top quality care close to their home and loved ones.
"Technology plays a huge part in modern day healthcare by helping to bridge the challenge of distance. Three new telehealth consulting rooms means patients can be treated near home and avoid the need for costly and stressful travel."

"The redevelopments taking place across health services in the Wheatbelt are enhancing the delivery of health care to local communities.
