NSW Police Force has conducted a high visibility operation targeting outstanding domestic violence offenders in the Illawarra.
Operation Surge is a high visibility proactive operation involving Southern Region Domestic Violence High Risk Offenders Team, Lake Illawarra Police District Proactive Crime Team, Southern Region Operational Support Group, Southern Region Trail Bike operatives and NSW Dog Unit.
During the operation yesterday (Wednesday 3 June 2026), officers charged three people with 18 offences, conducted 8 apprehended domestic violence order compliance checks, one Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO) search, two person searches, one bail compliance check and were involved in two drug detections.
Notable incidents include;
About 9.30am yesterday (Wednesday 3 June 2025), officers attended a home in Gasnier Road, Barrack Heights and arrested a 36-year-old man. He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged with stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm, armed within intent to commit indictable offence, common assault, commit s114 offence, having previous conviction. He was refused bail to appear in Bail Division Court 3 today (Thursday 4 June 2026). Police will allege in court the man grabbed and threatened a woman with a metal pole in Mangerton in April 2026.
About 11:44am yesterday, officers attached to State Crime Command Raptor Squad South observed a man wanted for a number of alleged property, steal from motor vehicle and break and enter offences, driving on King street, Warrawong. Police followed the car to the traffic lights at the intersection of Windang Road and Acacia Street, Windang and left their vehicles in an attempt to arrest the man. The man allegedly accelerated away. Police activated their car's warning lights and attempted to stop the vehicle. When the car failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated. Police lost sight of the car in Pur Pur Avenue, Lake Illawarra, before the car was located in Windang Street, Lake Illawarra. A search commenced involving the NSW Dog Unit, where the man was allegedly found in the backyard of a home in View Street, Lake Illawarra. The 27-year-old man allegedly resisted and was tasered to effect his arrest. He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged with 13 offences – police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, possess prohibited drug, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle), shoplifting value <=$2000, larceny value less than or equal to $2000 and five counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception. He was refused bail to appear in Bail Division Court 3 today (Thursday 4 June 2026)
About 8.50am yesterday (Wednesday 3 June 2026), officers attached to Lake Illawarra Proactive Crime Team attended a unit on Northcliffe Drive, Port Kembla for an unrelated matter. When officers searched the home they located a 24-year-old woman wanted for an offence. She was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged with destroy or damage property and served an apprehended domestic violence order. She was granted conditional bail to appear in Port Kembla Local Court on Wednesday 10 June 2026. Police will allege the woman attended the home of a man known to her, before smashing the front window of the home.
