School children to get complimentary access to Optus Sport to inspire the next generation of sport fans

Optus today announced it is offering Australian school children the opportunity to share in the excitement of the upcoming FIFA Womens World Cup 2019TM, by providing complimentary access to Optus Sport to school-aged children throughout the tournament.

With only 17 days until the first ball is kicked, the complimentary offer aims to give womens sport greater visibility and change the future Australian school children see.

By sharing one of the worlds greatest sporting events, Optus aims to promote greater equality for womens sport.

We're delighted that Optus Sport will bring the thrills and excitement of the FIFA Womens World Cup to children across Australia and we hope our complimentary access to the event will capture the imagination of a new generation, Optus CEO Allen Lew said.

School-aged children can redeem the complimentary offer by visiting their nearest Optus store from tomorrow, Thursday 23 May 2019. Children aged under 17 will be required to visit the store with a parent or guardian, while those aged between 17 and 19 can alternatively present a form of official identification*.

The FIFA Women's World Cup will be hosted in France for the first time and played throughout nine different cities. Ranked number six in the world, Australia are among 24 countries taking part and will seek a place in the final on 7 July in Lyon.

Optus Sport will have a number of crews in France during the tournament, including one dedicated to covering the Matildas, in addition to a main hosting studio.

Furthermore, the female-led broadcast team brings together some of Australias best female journalists and football talent to lead the 2019 FIFA Womens World Cup coverage, including respected presenter and former Matilda, Amy Duggan, along with Heather Garriock, Alicia Ferguson, Mel McLaughlin, John Aloisi and Mark Schwarzer.

Today's announcement follows on from the huge success of Optus Sports coverage of the English Premier League which concluded on 13 May to record numbers. The final round of the Premier League saw the highest ever viewing numbers for Optus Sport.
