The University of Notre Dame Australia has kicked off the 2021 academic year with Orientation Week (15-19 February), which included a highlight festival event on Tuesday 16th February held across both our Sydney and Fremantle Campuses.
The Notre Dame community was delighted to welcome new students on campus for an introduction to university life and the opportunity to meet their peers before classes officially start.
Vice Chancellor Professor Francis Campbell said, "it was so wonderful to see the campus buzzing again with new students getting to know the University."
"So many people worked so hard to make O Day such a success, in particular the Student Association. Olivia and her colleagues did such a wonderful job, also to Louise and Talia and all their colleagues across the University who organised the day and helped set it up. It was a great day enjoyed by all and showed UNDA at its best," Professor Campbell said.
In Fremantle, stalls lined Mouat Street showcasing local community and political groups, the University's range of clubs and societies and support services. Local musicians and roaming drum performers provided the soundtrack, while games and competitions added to the excitement of the day.
Campus tours took place on both Sydney and Fremantle Campuses throughout the day, giving new students the chance to get their bearings at their home campus. While the NDA Stores were open with discounts and giveaways on offer for commencing students.
In Sydney, the crowd centred in St Benedict's Courtyard where new students were able to chat with teachers and current students, enjoy free food and live music, or join a round of 'speed friending'. Competitions and games also contributed to the fun and atmosphere of the event.
Representatives from the numerous student clubs and societies welcomed new members on both campuses, alongside the Student Associations, NDSA and SAUNDA, who were on hand to answer questions - and even hosted a Macarena flash mob on the Sydney campus.
Teams from the Notre Dame Study Centre highlighted the academic support available at the University, while the Chaplaincy team ran numerous activities including a ping-pong match, and will continue to be on campus all week with masses scheduled to mark Ash Wednesday, as well Badminton tournament planned for Thursday.
