The Australian Government is conducting a new round of consultation on the Guarantee of Origin (GO) scheme.
The GO scheme was established in November 2024. It will track and verify emissions associated with low-emissions products and provide an enduring mechanism to certify renewable electricity.
The scheme supports the Australian Government's Future Made in Australia plan to attract investment in low carbon products and renewable electricity.
Consultation on the first component of subordinate legislation for the GO scheme was completed in March 2025. We are now seeking feedback on:
- the second tranche of the Guarantee of Origin Rules
- the Methodology Determination for hydrogen produced via electrolysis
- regulations relating to cost recovery charges.
The consultation package also includes a concept paper on the Government's proposed approach to energy storage systems in the Renewable Electricity Guarantee of Origin (REGO) scheme.
