OSCE Backs Tajikistan Defense EOD Training in Khatlon

OSCE

From 20 April to 2 May, the Programme Office in Dushanbe provided technical and logistical support to a Ministry of Defence-led course on Basic Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD). Hosted in Bokhtar City, instructors from the Ministry's own Regional Explosive Hazards Training Centre (REHTC) delivered the training to 14 participants (all male) including six personnel from the Ministry of Defense, six from the Border Troops, and two from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Throughout the course, the REHTC instructors led participants through a series of complex theoretical modules and practical field exercises. These included the reconnaissance of hazardous areas, the technical operation of metal detectors, the precise placement of demolition charges, and on-site disposal. Beyond the technical aspects of disposal, the Ministry of Defense emphasized the humanitarian dimension of the work by incorporating comprehensive training on casualty evacuation and the provision of emergency first aid.

By utilizing the REHTC's instructional expertise, and with OSCE support, the Ministry of Defense is ensuring that the specialized knowledge required to mitigate explosive threats is sustained within the country's own institutional framework, while a localized approach ensures that Tajikistan is capable of enhancing public safety and securing its borders against the legacy of explosive hazards.
