OSCE

The OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek, in partnership with the United States Embassy in Bishkek and the U.S. Department of State, supported a series of specialized trainings aimed at strengthening emergency medical response capacities of the State Border Service of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Conducted from 20 to 24 April 2026 at the State Border Service Training Centre in Osh, the activities focused on improving both human medical response skills and the operational readiness of K-9 units in complex field environments.

A three-day medical training (22-24 April), delivered by instructors from the U.S. Civil-Military Support Element at the U.S. Embassy in Bishkek, brought together medical personnel including doctors, paramedics, nurses, and laboratory specialists. The training focused on prolonged casualty care and emergency trauma management through practical exercises and scenario-based simulations.

Earlier, on 20-21 April, a specialized K-9 Tactical Combat Casualty Care training was conducted for 15 dog handlers, instructors, and veterinary specialists of the State Border Service. The training enhanced emergency response skills for service dogs operating in high-risk environments.

Participants highlighted the practical value of hands-on training in improving operational confidence and effectiveness, and stressed the importance of regular refresher courses to ensure long-term impact.

The initiative contributes to strengthening border security and improving institutional capacity to respond to emergencies, including in efforts to prevent illicit trafficking of small arms, light weapons, and explosives
