P Plater caught speeding in Kew East

Greensborough Highway Patrol officers detected a car travelling at speed in Kew East last night.

Officers detected a BMW X5 wagon allegedly travelling at 144km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Eastern Freeway, eastbound about 11.15pm.

The car was intercepted and the driver, a probationary licence holder of just over one month, was issued a $702 penalty notice.

The 19-year-old Thornbury man also had his licence suspended for six months.

This intercept forms part of Operation Saturn, a two-and-a-half-week state-wide road policing operation.

The operation commenced on Thursday, 22 October and aims to prevent further trauma on our roads caused by dangerous driving in both metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. It focuses on increased traffic on rural roads, drink and drug driving, seatbelt compliance and driving slowly.

Operation Saturn will run from 12.01am on Thursday 22 October to 11.59pm on Sunday 8 November 2020.
