  • Funds raised will go towards vital equipment, services and programs, and medical research, improving access to care for children across WA
  • Donation made on behalf of every Western Australian

The Cook Labor Government has celebrated the extraordinary generosity of Western Australians, contributing a record $18 million to Telethon's 2026 fundraising total.

Made on behalf of every Western Australian, the donation will provide vital support for some of the state's sickest children and their families.

The funding will help deliver essential equipment, services and programs for children in need, while advancing life-changing medical research with the potential to benefit children across Australia and around the world.

For 59 years, Telethon has held a special place in the hearts of Western Australians, raising more than $778 million since it first appeared on television screens in 1968.

The State Government has been a major Telethon donor for many years, helping the much-loved children's charity expand its reach and support a number of 147 beneficiaries this year.

In 2026, Telethon funded more than 300 grants, including 199 program grants and 38 research grants, as well as 3,044 pieces of equipment.

This year marks the fifth consecutive year the State Government has made a record Telethon donation on behalf of Western Australians, and comes ahead of the event's 60thanniversary in 2027.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

"For more than half a century, Western Australians have opened their hearts to Telethon, and this record contribution from my Government recognises that extraordinary generosity.

"Every child deserves access to the care and support they need, no matter where they live or what challenges they face.

"Whether it's vital medical equipment, specialist programs or life-changing research, this funding will make a real difference to sick children and their families for years to come.

"Western Australians always dig deep for Telethon, and I'm incredibly proud to see people right across our State once again opening their hearts and giving what they can.

"Telethon is a Western Australian institution. Generations of us have grown up with it, whether that's calling the phone room, putting some pocket money in a collection tin, or watching the tally climb over the weekend."

As stated by Health Minister Meredith Hammat:

"Every year the generosity of Western Australians is on full display during Telethon, and this weekend has been no exception.

"I've seen firsthand the meaningful impact your donations are having at Perth Children's Hospital, ensuring our children continue to have access to nation-leading care.

"Your generous donations will help WA children today and also benefit the many generations of future West Australians to come."
