P1 driver 65km/h above limit with kids in car at Waterfall

A P-plate driver has been caught allegedly driving more than 65km/h above the speed limit with her two children in the vehicle in Sydney's south.

Officers attached to Sutherland Shire Highway Patrol were conducting stationary speed-enforcement duties on the Princes Highway at Waterfall about 9.35am yesterday (Monday 4 January 2021), when they saw a Mitsubishi SUV allegedly being driven at 147km/h in the signposted 80km/h zone.

They directed the 20-year-old woman driving to stop and she produced a P1 licence. Her two children, aged four and two, were in the vehicle at the time.

A roadside drug test proved positive and the woman was arrested and taken to Sutherland Police Station for further testing.

The woman, from Busby, has been issued with a traffic infringement notice for exceeding speed by more than 45km/h; her licence was suspended on the spot for six months. Further charges may be laid pending the outcome of the laboratory test.

A child-at-risk notification has been made.
