Students at Palm Beach-Currumbin State High are embracing their new state-of-the-art library and classroom block, delivered by the Palaszczuk Government.
Education Minister Grace Grace joined the school community today in officially opening the $12 million three-storey building.
"This Library Precinct Building is an amazing facility and can accommodate close to 300 students," Ms Grace said.
"The school has already started using the six new classrooms, two design studios, library, offices, kitchen and collaborative spaces.
"The ground floor has the capacity to fit eight extra learning spaces to cater for future enrolment growth, too.
"It's fantastic to see this kind of an investment in a fast-growing school of more than 2,600 students, delivered under the Government's $430 million 2020 Ready Program.
"I would also like to acknowledge the school P&C's generous contribution of $1 million to include the kitchen and function areas."
Ms Grace said the project was one of many on the books across the Coast.
"This Government is no stranger when it comes to investing in Gold Coast state school infrastructure projects, with half a billion dollars invested since 2015," she said.
"This building at Palm Beach-Currumbin State High is one of seven 2020 Ready projects delivered at Gold Coast Schools – I was proud to open the $8 million centre at Pacific Pines State High School in February.
"Last month the sod was also turned on a new $60 million primary school at Pimpama, opening to the first Prep-year 6 students in term 1, 2021.
"In January we opened the new Foxwell State Secondary College in Coomera to the first year 7 students.
"We know the Gold Coast is rapidly growing, that's why we're building the classrooms and schools needed to keep pace."
Palm Beach-Currumbin State High School Principal Christopher Capra said students and staff were ecstatic about the Library Precinct Building.
"These new classrooms give us plenty of space to accommodate the continued growth in enrolments we have experienced this year," he said.
The Palm Beach-Currumbin State High School building was delivered by Broad Construction, with construction supporting 36 full-time jobs.
