Paraguay Officials Designated for Significant Corruption

Today the United States is announcing the designations of the former Director of the Paraguayan Civil Aviation Authority Edgar Melgarejo, current member of the Paraguayan Panel for the Discipline of Judges and Prosecutors Jorge Bogarin, and current Court Clerk Vicente Ferreira for their involvement in significant corruption under Section 7031(c) of the annual Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act.

These designations render Melgarejo, Bogarin, and Ferreira and their immediate family members ineligible for entry into the United States.

U.S. actions today reaffirm there are consequences for those who disrupt progress in strengthening democracy through corrupt activities. We continue to support the citizens, organizations, and public servants in Paraguay who are committed to generating hope and opportunity for a better future for their country.

The United States stands with the people of Paraguay in support of democracy and the rule of law and will continue to promote accountability for those who abuse public power for personal gain.
