Parks reopening welcome in communities

John Tucker,Liberal Member for Lyons

The health, safety and wellbeing of Tasmanians is our number one priority, and because of the hard work we have all done over the past couple of months, we are now able to start on the road back.

I welcome today's reopening of national parks, reserves and beaches.

Tasmanians can now undertake exercise and activities in parks and reserves located within 30 kilometres by road of their place of residence, limited to day trips.

This is welcome news for many Tasmanians.

People are once again able to go mountain biking, surfing, and walking at local beaches and reserves, and enjoy the space and beauty of Tassie's outdoors.

But please remember that this is just the first step, and we still have a long way to go.

Social distancing rules still apply, and people are asked to move on once they have completed their exercise. If carparks are full, please return at another time.

The message remains, if you don't need to leave your home to go to work, to school, to get essential supplies, to provide care or to exercise – then you should stay at home.

I thank everyone in the community for their cooperation in doing the right thing. It is because of your cooperation that we are now able to start taking steps back.

Camp grounds and visitor centres remain closed at this time.

Reopened parks and reserves will be monitored to ensure that social distancing and gathering rules are adhered to.
