Parramatta's New Migration Hub Boosts Justice Access

Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia

Parramatta, NSW - The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 2) (the Court) today officially opened a new purpose‑built Migration Hub at its Parramatta Registry, marking a significant step toward improving access to justice for court users in Western Sydney.

The event also provided an opportunity to highlight the Court's whole-of-system leadership in access to justice reform through demonstrations and practical engagement.

The official opening was attended by the Commonwealth Attorney‑General, the Hon. Michelle Rowland MP, Chief Justice of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, the Hon. William Alstergren AO, and brings together representatives from local legal services, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) organisations, and community service providers.

Supporting access to justice

Access to justice is central to the Court's work, particularly for people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities who may face barriers when navigating court processes.

Importantly, people involved in migration proceedings in Western Sydney can now file migration matters in person and access dedicated migration support services locally, closer to where they live and work. Litigants can receive practical, in‑person support from Cultural Liaison Officers and migration Client Service Officers, who can help them navigate and understand court processes.

The new Migration Hub provides:

  • In‑person filing facilities for migration cases
  • Facilities for Judicial Registrars to conduct in‑person court events
  • Dedicated, purpose‑built meeting spaces for Cultural Liaison Officers
  • Access to migration Client Service Officers

Other court-wide Access to Justice initiatives include:

A boost for Western Sydney communities

Chief Justice William Alstergren AO said the new Hub reflects the Court's commitment to reducing barriers to justice.

"Importantly, people in Western Sydney involved in migration proceedings can now attend court services in person, close to where they live and work.

The new Hub brings key services directly into the community. This investment reflects the Court's ongoing commitment to improving access to justice and reducing barriers to participation in the legal system for all Australians and all litigants we serve."

Attorney‑General for Australia, the Hon. Michelle Rowland MP, said:

"The Albanese Government is committed to ensuring that all Australians, no matter their circumstances, have equitable access to justice.

The new purpose-built Migration Hub will reduce barriers to justice and make a meaningful difference for locals in Western Sydney and beyond.

I look forward to continuing to work with the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia to further improve access to justice and remove barriers for those who need it most."

Funding and future services

The FCFCOA Parramatta Migration Hub was delivered as part of the Commonwealth Government's 2024-25 Budget , supporting the Court's focus on accessible, user‑centred services.

In the Commonwealth Government's recent 2025-26 Budget , the Government announced a further commitment of $34.2 million over three years, designed to add capacity to the Court's migration jurisdiction and to provide ongoing support to vulnerable applicants.

The Hub also forms part of a broader program of improvements, including new migration facilities in Melbourne, expected to commence operations later in 2026.
