Detectives from Major Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash which occurred in Springvale South this morning.
Emergency services were called to Springvale Road about 5.30am after reports a car had crashed into a pole.
The male driver and his female passenger were freed from the vehicle and taken to hospital in critical condition.
The female passenger later died at hospital.
