Growing in size and scope every year, Australia-Africa Week is an opportunity to celebrate the many ties between Australia and countries across the African continent.
The week is also a fascinating chance to discover a taste of the cultures, skills and business activities of many Western Australian communities from African backgrounds.
Developed around the Africa Down Under Conference, Australia-Africa Week features events and activities that explore the economic and cultural links between African countries and WA.
The McGowan Government, through a partnership between the Commonwealth Bank and the Office of Multicultural Interests, is supporting the Australia-Africa Trade and Cultural Expo which will showcase African Australian small businesses and cultural demonstrations.
The expo, taking place at Yagan Square on September 6 and 7, will feature two sensational flash-mob dances following on the success of last year's event.
Other events over Australia-Africa Week include university seminars, discussion panels, social functions and community events.
Western Australia is home to more than 101,200 Africa-born people, which makes up about 4.1 per cent of the State's total population.
