Terracotta Warriors: Legacy of the First Emperor opens Saturday at WA Museum Boola Bardip - marking the beginning of what is set to be the most significant museum exhibition Western Australia has ever seen.

Collaboratively developed between the Western Australian Museum, Shaanxi Cultural Heritage Promotion Centre and the Emperor Qin Shihuang Mausoleum Museum, the exhibition features more than 225 original artefacts, including 10 of the world-famous terracotta figures themselves.

Most of the objects have never been seen in Australia before, and nearly half have never been seen outside China.

Visitors are invited to step into the extraordinary world of China's First Emperor Qin Shihuang and immerse themselves in the stories of the Empire he forged, the legacy he created, and the afterlife for which he meticulously prepared.

Multimedia digital technology will accompany the experience to enrich the story of Qin Shihuang, to reveal the extraordinary scale, artistry and ambition behind the Emperor's tomb and the life-sized terracotta army created to protect him in the afterlife.

A full season of public programming will accompany the exhibition, including after-hours events, tea ceremonies, music, art workshops and family activities.

Terracotta Warriors: Legacy of the First Emperor runs from 28 June 2025 to 22 February 2026 at WA Museum Boola Bardip. Tickets are now on sale.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

"This is an exceptional opportunity for Western Australia. It is like nothing we have ever seen before.

"It is the largest and most significant exhibition the WA Museum has ever shown. Bringing what is perhaps the eighth wonder of the world to many people who otherwise may never have the opportunity to experience it.

"The exhibition is one of a kind and is set to welcome 180,000 visitors across the seven and a half months, including more than 60,000 from interstate and overseas.

"This has far-reaching impacts for WA's tourism, hospitality and hotel businesses, and is an excellent example of the economic diversification we strive for to support our State."

As stated by Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk:

"Terracotta Warriors: Legacy of the First Emperor is telling the story of a pivotal moment in China's history.

"This exhibition offers something for everyone: exquisite ancient artefacts, digital experiences, and, of course, the breath-taking Terracotta Warriors.

"The economic and cultural impacts of securing an exhibition of this size and calibre affirms Western Australia's ability to stage blockbuster exhibitions.

"I encourage all Western Australians to book a date with the warriors and make the most of the experience, you won't regret it."
