Perth man to face court for disorderly behaviour

A Perth man, 28, has been arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and trespassing at Perth Airport.

AFP officers responded to an incident on 20 December 2022, after the man was prevented from boarding a flight bound for Melbourne after acting aggressively towards airline staff.

It will be alleged that the man was denied access to the flight due to intoxication and anti-social behaviour.

AFP officers attempted to persuade the man to leave the airport, but the man was allegedly belligerent and unable to follow instructions, he was then arrested and charged.

The man is scheduled to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on 6 January 2023.

He has been charged with:

  • One count of disorderly conduct contrary to section 74(A)2 of the WA Criminal Code;
  • One count of trespassing contrary to section 70(A)2 of the WA Criminal Code.

The maximum penalty for disorderly conduct is a $6,000 fine.

The maximum penalty for trespassing is one year in prison and a $12,000 fine.

The AFP recently launched Operation Sleigh to ensure the festive cheer is maintained at Australia's nine largest airports during the busy Christmas travelling season.

The nation-wide crackdown will see an increase of police patrols at airports through December and January providing protection and assistance to the travelling public.

AFP Acting Inspector Joshua Gilmour said anti-social behaviour would not be tolerated at airports or on aircraft.

"Authorities have zero tolerance for abusive and aggressive behaviour in airports or on aircraft. We need to treat each other the way we want to be treated, with respect," AFP Acting Inspector Gilmour said.

"During this peak holiday travel season, with many families travelling, the AFP is urging people to consider their alcohol intake, consider their fellow travellers and consider if their behaviour is appropriate."

If you require a police presence at an airport, or wish to report an incident or provide information, please call the AFP's Airport Watch on 131 AFP (131 237).
