Residents are reminded to pay their annual domestic animal registration fees.
Corangamite Shire Council Manager Environment and Emergency Lyall Bond said all dogs and cats must be registered with Council and fees paid on an annual basis.
"The vast majority of owners have done the right thing but there are still a few outstanding."
Mr Bond reminded residents that registering and microchipping their pet was an essential part of responsible pet ownership.
"The Domestic Animals Act 1994 requires dog and cat owners to microchip and register their animals that are three months of age or older with their local council.
"It is important to register your pets so if they are lost or stolen or stray, they can be returned home safely," he said.
"If people are having difficulty paying their registrations, they can contact Council to discuss their needs and, if required, arrange a payment plan."
Council Local Laws Officers will commence inspections and door knocks in the next few weeks and may issue fines to people who have not registered or re-registered their dogs and cats as required under the Domestic Animals Act 1994.
