Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination bookings for Western Australians aged 60 years and above have now been brought forward to begin from tomorrow (September 17).
From tomorrow, people in this age group can visit http://www.rollup.wa.gov.au to register and book an appointment at a State-run COVID-19 vaccination clinic.
This important initiative, aimed at getting the remaining people aged 60 years and over fully vaccinated, is starting earlier than initially planned due to available appointments and additional capacity in the system.
There are currently 50,000 appointments available across WA Health State-run COVID-19 vaccination clinics within the next six weeks.
These appointments are open to all Western Australians aged 12 and above who can visit http://www.rollup.wa.gov.au to register and book an appointment at a State-run COVID-19 vaccination clinic.
There are WA Health State-run COVID-19 vaccination clinics in more than 100 locations across Western Australia, with sites listed on the HealthyWA website.
In line with the national health advice from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation, people aged 60 years or older who have already had a first dose of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine should have their second dose of the AstraZeneca.
People who wish to be vaccinated at their GP or pharmacist should speak to them directly about vaccine availability and bookings, with the Commonwealth also now approving the use of Pfizer for people aged 60 and over via GP clinics.
As stated by Health Minister Roger Cook:
"I encourage all Western Australians aged 12 years and over to roll up and get vaccinated.
"Vaccination is the best protection we have against COVID-19 and will ensure that people are protected from the risk of serious illness or death associated with the virus.
"More than 90 per cent of people aged over 70 have now had one dose and more than 70 per cent are fully vaccinated.
"We want to see more people aged in their 60s getting vaccinated. The rate for them is at 80 per cent first dose and just over 50 per cent fully vaccinated.
"Now that we have more availability there is no excuse to delay your decision to get vaccinated if you are eligible."
