The Finocchiaro CLP Government is making the Territory lifestyle the envy of the nation ensuring Territorians don't have to travel interstate to see the best in action.
Hosting matches at TIO Stadium reinforces the Northern Territory's reputation as a first-class destination for major sporting events, investment, and tourism.
The Northern Territory is set for a massive week of rugby league as the Dolphins arrive for their first official Darwin home game against the Penrith Panthers this Friday, 17 April.
The clash at TIO Stadium-which is nearly a sell-out-marks the opening chapter of a landmark three-year partnership between the Dolphins and the Finocchiaro CLP Government. This deal cements the Territory's reputation as a world-class sporting destination and ensures Territorians don't have to travel interstate to see the best in the world; they have a front-row seat right here in their own backyard
Supporters can catch a behind-the-scenes look at the team's final preparations during the Captain's Run at TIO Stadium on Thursday, 16 April (8:30 am - 9:30 am). While free, this is a ticketed event with limited capacity.
Minister for People, Sport and Culture, Jinson Charls said, "I am thrilled to welcome the Dolphins back to their home away from home. Territorians are the most passionate sports fans in the nation, and the Finocchiaro CLP Government is proud to continue delivering on our promise to bring top-tier sport to the Territory. I cannot wait to see the 'Phins' take the field in front of what I know will be an electric Darwin crowd."
Minister for Tourism and Hospitality and self-confessed Dolphins tragic, Marie-Clare Boothby said, "the Northern Territory is Dolphins territory, and my boys and I are absolutely pumped to welcome the Phins back to the Top End."
"And as much as we love the game, it's not just about the rugby league. It's about boosting visitor numbers to the Territory - to pack out our tour operators, restaurants, pubs and hotels."
"It's also about driving that visitation and activity beyond the peak tourist season - a core part of our ambitious Visitor Economy Strategy. We want visitors to see more, spend more, and stay more often when they come to the Territory, and major sporting events do just that."
Dolphins captain, Tom Gilbert shared "we're really looking forward to getting back to Darwin and playing our first official NT home game. The Territory always gives us an unreal welcome, and we can't wait to run out in front of a loud, passionate crowd at TIO Stadium."
NRL NT General Manager Tony Crowe has expressed his excitement saying, "for many years, we've seen the way the Dolphins get behind grassroots footy and the community. It's that energy, sportsmanship and authenticity that Territorians have really embraced."
