Pine Gully Road Intersection Upgrade In Final Stages

Construction works on the upgrade of the intersection at Pine Gully Road and Cootamundra Boulevard are entering the home stretch, with the new roundabout expected to be open to traffic in early May 2026.

Works on Stage 2 of Council's Pine Gully Road Corridor upgrade project began at the end of January 2026.

The intersection treatment has included the construction of a new roundabout, traffic islands, drainage improvements, lighting improvements and service relocations.

Project Manager Henry Collie said the contractors are now in the final stages of delivering the intersection upgrade.

"It's all starting to take shape; the concrete was poured and stencilled on the centre island of the roundabout earlier this week," Mr Collie said.

"The last of the service relocation works have also taken place this week, allowing the contractors to start the asphalt work on the new intersection and its approaches.

"It's expected this will take around a week to complete and then the asphalt will need time to cure before the line marking can be done.

"At this stage, we're looking to have the construction works and remaining minor site works, such as signage, completed in the first week of May, weather permitting.

"That's a positive result in light of the delays caused by the heavy rainfall and storms in March and again just last week (9 – 10 April)."

The join between a section of subgrade layer of a road and a layer of fresh asphalt on a road under construction.

When the intersection opens to traffic, it will provide residents and road users with direct east-west access between Gobbagombalin and Estella Rise, and Boorooma and Estella.

However, Council's Acting Director Infrastructure Services Ray Graham said until the intersection treatment is completed, the southern, northern, and western approaches to the intersection will remain closed.

"We appreciate the patience and understanding everyone has shown since we closed this section of Pine Gully Road back at the end of January," Mr Graham said.

"We ask for that support to continue for another few weeks while the final elements of this important piece of infrastructure are concluded.

"Council also wants to assure the community that planning is well underway for the next stage of the Pine Gully Road project, a new intersection at Estella Road linking to the northern part of Estella Rise via Jumbuck Drive.

"We are working on the design for this intersection to ensure the final solution meets safety standards and future demand as this part of Wagga Wagga continues to grow.

"We will keep residents, business and the broader community informed as this process is progresses and is finalised."

The Pine Gully Road Corridor upgrade project is funded by Wagga Wagga City Council.
