Construction of a brand new neighbourhood playground at Olivia Way Reserve, Hastings, is underway.

The playground will be a fun, safe and accessible outdoor zone for local children, where they can explore a combination of traditional play equipment and nature play. The playground design has been audited by an access consultant to ensure it meets universal design principles, making it user-friendly for more people.

The playspace will include:

  • two turn-over bars
  • climbing and balancing zone
  • harness, sling and toddler swings
  • play unit with slides, monkey bar and climbing poles
  • stepping-stone path
  • low carbon concrete footpaths
  • scooter track
  • recycled rubber soft fall (playground surface).

The revamped reserve will be complete with the addition of picnic tables, shelter, open lawn and kick-about area, native planting, bins, five off-street parallel car parks and a connecting footpath from the street to the playground. Existing trees will be protected, and new trees planted for natural shade and healthy natural environment.

The project is being jointly funded by Mornington Peninsula Shire and the State Government, through the Growing Suburbs Fund.

Construction began in June and is expected to be complete in November.

Quotes attributable to Mayor Councillor Steve Holland:

"Olivia Way playground is one of the major outcomes from this financial year's Budget. Neighbourhood playgrounds are a great place for locals to meet and can improve social connection and the mental and physical health of families. While playgrounds are often visited by people who live close by, we're creating five off-street car parks, including one accessible parking spot, for those travelling by car."

Quotes attributable to Cerberus Councillor Lisa Dixon:

"I am so proud that this playground includes universal design principals.

"I hope many local Hastings families will make good use of this playground. A good variety of play equipment, a fun and colourful scooter track, lush lawns and sheltered picnic tables are the recipe for a fun and free day out!"
