Tasmania's second largest hydro power station is undergoing a $200 million upgrade.
Minister for Energy and Renewables, Nick Duigan, said the Poatina Power Station upgrades were the biggest in the site's history.
"This $200 million project will upgrade six of the station's turbines over the next decade," Minister Duigan said.
"One of the turbines has already been successfully upgraded and recommissioned. The upgrade of the second turbine is expected to be complete in April 2027.
"The new materials and technology will deliver more efficient machines, with the new turbine runners using less water to produce the same amount of energy.
"In the past, the turbine runners would need to be serviced every six months. Now we're expecting to get about 20 years of runtime without having to do any heavy maintenance."
Poatina is a critical asset for the state, with this station generating 10 per cent of Tasmania's energy needs.
"Our Government recognises the nation and the world are facing turbulent times. Having a stronger economy and stronger finances mean stronger protections for Tasmanians," Minister Duigan said.
"Our Government is continuing to deliver the services and build the infrastructure Tasmania must have now and into the future."
