The revitalisation of the Point Plomer Precinct in Limeburners Creek National Park, undertaken by NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, requires a temporary closure of the campground from 1 August to 15 December 2024 to accommodate construction activities.
This closure is part of the Plan of Management announced on 6 March 2024 to enhance the scenic beauty, rich cultural heritage, and biodiversity of the area, situated between Port Macquarie and Crescent Head.
Despite the campground closure, plans are in place to maintain day use visitation throughout this period, reflecting the area's popularity and the desire to keep it accessible to visitors.
The revitalisation project includes the construction of a new access road, set to begin in May 2024 and expected to be completed by the end of June 2024, thereby improving visitor access.
Following the completion of the road, the main phase of the project will commence in August 2024, featuring upgrades such as levelling camp sites, improving drainage systems, ensuring safer access roads, and planting native vegetation to support local wildlife.
Additionally, the project will introduce a new campground office, expanded parking for day visitors, new seating and picnic areas, and enhanced protection for cultural heritage sites.
