Police appalled by outrageous driving in Niddrie

Members were patrolling when they observed a Mercedes sedan speeding on the Calder Freeway about 3.30pm.

The car was detected on laser travelling at a mind-boggling alleged speed of 196km/hr in the 100km/hr zone.

The car was intercepted on the Tullamarine Freeway in Essendon, and three occupants were spoken to.

The probationary driver, a 19-year-old from Airport West, is expected to be charged on summons with multiple offences.

His car was also impounded with towing costs of $884.

The driver and his two teenage passengers were also fined for breaching the Chief Health Officer directions.
